Ahhhh, autumn

I love this time of the year. The sky is clear, the first of the leaves are beginning to turn colors and fall, and there is just a hint of crispness to the air. The weather is so beautiful that people can’t help but play outside. Over the past week I’ve seen games of catch and frisbee, and kites flying high above happy picnickers. In general, people have just been outside more: window shopping, getting exercise, and cleaning out their nasal passages.

That’s right. Earlier this week my eyes beheld the sight of a posh middle-aged woman with her entire pointer finger up her nose, mining for boogers deeper than than the best of the toddlers I’ve known. She was completely oblivious to the people around her, most of whom were staring in awe and disbelief at the depth of her finger, which was working quite furiously to dislodge a particularly bothersome booger. We have the lovely weather to thank for this revealing spectacle; had it been warmer, this high-class sophisticate would have picked her nose in the relative comfort of air conditioning.

I do love this time of the year.
